Getting Involved
How can I perform at WOMADelaide?
WOMADelaide is an invitation-only festival with the budget and space to program around 30 international and 15 Australian artists/groups each year, plus a number of street theatre and visual artists. Applications for the 2011 festival are no longer being accepted (no exceptions). Applications for the 2012 festival will open on 1 April 2011 and details will be available online then.
How do I get a stall?
The festival selects around 100 stalls each year (45 food, 35 crafts and 20 display). Please note that WOMADelaide has a capacity of 20,000 people per day, so stallholders with extensive experience, including work at other large-scale events and festivals, are considered favourably. Vans selling hot chips, Dagwood Dogs etc are not suitable, as the food on offer at the festival is of an international, gourmet nature. Applications for 2011 festival are now open and the deadline to apply is Friday 22 October.

I'm a student doing an assignment on WOMADelaide, where can I find info?
Refer to summary sheet and the history PDF. Please note that we do not have the time to answer additional, individual questions from students.
How can I get a job at the festival?
Generally speaking, we fill our contract positions at least 6 months before the festival with experienced staff and do not advertise, but if you have extensive marketing, production or event management skills, email us For paid bar work, click here.
How can I volunteer at the festival?
WOMADelaide uses around 150 volunteers before and during each festival. Volunteers work at the Info Booth, on the bike racks, on the set-up and pack-up, in the merchandise shop, on special projects, as Crowd Care and on the Green Team. Generally speaking, volunteers receive a 4-Day Pass giving access to Botanic Park (not backstage) and a souvenir t-shirt, in exchange for around 16 hours’ work over the four days.
Volunteers must be over 18 and resident in Adelaide. The festival has a team of established and experienced interpreters, artist minders and publicity assistants who work backstage - these positions are not available to the wider public.
Please email a brief resume/CV to apadmin@artsprojects.com.au by 17 December 2010 if you would like to be considered with ‘volunteer application’ in the subject header. Please note that the festival receives many applications and not every applicant can be accommodated.
Can I do my tertiary course industry placement in the lead-up to the festival?
We accept 1-2 people a year and only if they are studying event/site/production management, journalism/marketing. Email your resume by the end of August to express your interest.
Can I get work experience at WOMADelaide?
Unless you are doing a relevant tertiary course (see above) we do not accept high school students or others for work experience.
How can I get media accreditation for covering the festival?
Media accreditation applications will be available online from October 2010. There are a limited number of media passes available for accredited media only. All media pass requests and subsequent approval will be reliant on pre-festival coverage generated.
