Applications open 7 June – 6 August 2021
WOMADelaide 5-8 March 2021 was presented in a modified format: one stage, in a different venue, 6,000 reserved seats and an all-Australian line-up of 11 groups.
With the support of the South Australian health authorities, we are working towards returning to a multi-stage format for our 30th anniversary festival from Friday 11 – Monday 14 March 2022 in Botanic Park, Adelaide, South Australia.
We will be working in partnership with WOMAD NZ Friday 18 – Sunday 20 March 2022 in Brooklands Park, New Plymouth, New Zealand.
NOTE - in May 2021 the Australian Government advised that the international border will be closed until ‘mid 2022’, due to the ongoing global pandemic. The 2022 events and programs will be developed in accordance with the relevant government advice, which currently requires 14 days’ medi-hotel quarantining on arrival into each country. Timelines and formats may change and our ability to program international artists may be affected.
WOMADelaide features seven open-air stages with music and dance performances, street theatre/site installation artists, workshops, the Taste the World cooking program, the Planet Talks environmental discussions program, a KidZone and more.
See https://www.womadelaide.com.au/archive for previous programs. Broadly speaking, we present traditional and contemporary, original music (not covers) of a high standard. Commercial rock, opera and R&B are not usually featured and a strong live show is an important consideration.
The program of around 60 groups is selected/curated by the festival office in Adelaide. If you are invited to perform, we provide a performance fee, return flights, per diems and visas (if applicable) plus local accommodation, production/technical, marketing/publicity and ground transport.
For invited artists being toured by another promoter, we provide a delivered/landed fee plus local accommodation, production/technical, marketing/publicity and ground transport. The promoter is responsible for flights, per diems and visas in this instance.
Please note –
- Over 500 applications are usually received
- You will receive acknowledgment of your application. After that, no further emails will be sent by the festival unless more information is needed or an invitation is forthcoming.
- Unfortunately, there is not enough time to service ongoing enquiries or to advise if you have not been successful.
- We do not take applications for Workshops, Taste the World, The Planet Talks or KidZone
- Links to download files via Dropbox/WeTransfer (or similar) will not be opened.
Thank you for your understanding.
*If you applied online for the 2021 festival, there is no need to re-apply for 2022
