This young and exciting emerging force, from a remote coastal community on the Gulf of Carpentaria in the NT, sing in language about country, culture and the Dhumbul (Devil) Dance. Performing with contemporary arrangements, edge and energy, Mambali are striving to be a positive influence on the next generation.
Mambali offers a unique insight into their music and culture through this workshop. Take a journey from ancient culture to modern contemporary music and see how both of these aspects of Arnhem Land Indigenous life work together. You’ll be asked to actively participate, as the artists teach the mysteries of the Devil Dance and explain the complexity of combining traditional culture with modern instruments. And, of course, you will be given a masterclass by a master of the lumbilpil (didgeridoo).
