Since being exiled from South Africa during the apartheid era, Valanga Khoza has charmed audiences in Australia, Europe and the Pacific with humour and wit, telling stories of his extraordinary journey across the world as a political refugee. An author, teacher and performer, his solo shows feature his velvety voice accompanied by guitar, percussion and traditional instruments such as the kalimba, shipendani and shijoro (jaw harp).
Valanga Khoza will introduce you to the joyous vocal music of South Africa. Come and enjoy this inclusive experience as Valanga takes you on a journey of original vocal improvisations and chants, as well as some traditional South African songs. Valanga will present the workshop with many stories that will give you an insight into the meaning and culture of the songs. He will have everyone singing, moving and grooving. No experience necessary - if you can talk, you can sing!
