A talented musician and singer from the Malaita Province of the Solomon Islands, Chris Kamu’ana Rohoimae captured hearts as the winner of ABC’s Pacific Break 2024 with his poignant song Naratana manu. The 28 year old was selected from over 300 entries from 18 Pacific nations in the annual competition to perform at WOMADelaide. Drawing inspiration from his father, a traditional panpipes musician, Chris began producing music two years ago after stepping away from college. His style beautifully merges contemporary and traditional sounds, featuring the au po’o panpipe, guitar, and modern production techniques. Naratana manu, sung in Are-Are language, conveys a powerful narrative of resilience, addressing the challenges of navigating friendships. His music embodies the spirit of perseverance and cultural richness of the Pacific.
