The musical project of singer-songwriter Sam Beam, Iron & Wine has captured the emotions and imagination of listeners for over 20 years, with its distinctly cinematic folk songs. Beam, a former film professor whose deeply burnished vocals, keen melodic sensibility and introspective lyrics bring this music to life, has collaborated with Calexico, Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) and Jesca Hoop, made a live concert documentary and received five Grammy nominations. Iron & Wine’s 2002 debut album The Creek Drank the Cradle garnered both critical and popular acclaim, vaulting Beam into the spotlight of the burgeoning indie-folk/Americana scene as one of its new and leading voices. Since then, he has recorded another six albums, continually shifting Iron & Wine’s musical identity and making records that are diverse and political.
