Formed in Nantes in 1993, Orange Blossom draws inspiration from Arab and Western music, bringing electronic and traditional global sounds together. Over their many years of touring, the five-piece band has honed their stagecraft to create mesmerising and memorable performances that have gained them a cult following. Their latest album Spells From the Drunken Sirens, released in 2024, features their trademark evocative vocals, driving percussion and glorious strings, taking audiences on a sonic journey through Mali, Egypt and Cuba. It was released a decade after Under the Shade of Violets, an album which entered the French charts and marked a turning point in their history.
Workshop:
This workshop will aim to highlight Orange Blossom's approach to blending different musical traditions. Carlos Robles Arenas (composer and drummer), Fatoma Dembélé (percussionist), and Maria Hassan (singer) will guide the audience through a piece from their repertoire, introducing them to, and allowing them to practice Cuban and West African rhythms, as well as an oriental vocal style, which, combined with electronic music, forms a major part of the group's distinctive identity.
