One of the leading figures in contemporary Cuban jazz, Roberto Fonseca takes timeless Cuban rhythms and infuses them with influences of jazz, classical, R&B, electronic and funk music. Born in Havana, the pianist, singer and multi-instrumentalist first appeared on stage at the age of 15 at La Havana Jazz Festival, a festival he went on to lead 26 years later. He has a Grammy Award nomination, nine solo albums and more than 20 collaborative projects under his belt, and in 2019 was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the highest artistic distinction in France. Known for his eclectic range and collaborations across genres, early in his career Fonseca toured the world as the junior virtuoso with the Buena Vista Social Club. Today, at the pinnacle of his career, this dazzling performer and his band bring an unbridled modernity to the magic of Cuban music.
