Young trailblazers of an ancient art form, Xylourides are the youth brigade of Cretan folk music. Descendants of legendary musicians George Xylouris and Psarantonis, and hailing from the epicentre of the movement in Anogeia in the mountains of Crete, twins Adonis and Nikos and their sister Apollonia Xylouris are not just caretakers of this folk music, they are perhaps its finest working exponents. The group has made the music their own, infusing it with a hyper energy and youthful enthusiasm that is infectious and powerful, while honouring all the strict traditions carried through generations. In Greece, everyone knows and loves this music, as though pop music never existed. And, in Australia, Xylourides sold out all of their shows in Melbourne in 2024 and in early 2025, closing the Antipodes Festival to a packed Lonsdale Street.
