In this dynamic musical pairing, Japanese shamisen virtuoso Noriko Tadano collaborates with award-winning film composer and sound designer Adam Ritchie to perform YASHA. An instrumental work, YASHA tells the story of a woman who, after experiencing a great amount of suffering, transforms into a revenge-seeking demon. The performance morphs traditional Japanese music with live modular synths, blurring the line between music and sound design. Fusing moody and imposing synth undertones and traditional performance arts from Tadano’s native Japan, this is a truly unique performance piece. Tadano showcases her many talents giving a masterclass on the shamisen, a series of traditional singing, and a foreboding percussive set using a nagado‐taiko drum while dressed in an oni mask.
