Artist Development
At its heart, WOMADelaide is a festival of discovery. We are dedicated to showcasing local and national artists at every stage of their professional journey.

The First Decades: Launching Legends
By booking emerging Australian talent alongside global headliners, we have long provided a crucial platform for creative growth. Many now-legendary artists performed at pivotal turning points in their careers:
- Legacy Acts: Archie Roach (1995) • Vika and Linda Bull (1995) • John Butler (2001) • The Waifs (2003) • The Cat Empire (2003) • Melbourne Ska Orchestra (2002)
- Modern Pioneers: Baker Boy (2018) • Xavier Rudd (2022) • Glass Beams (2022) • DEM MOB (2023) • Elsy Wameyo (2022) • Any Young Mechanic (2026)
- Cultural: Our deep roots in community exchange are symbolised by the 2009-2011 APY Lands flag-making project. These works went on to tour global WOMAD festivals, and a selection are still featured on-site today.

Today: Future-Proofing Talent
We continue to build formal pipelines for diverse voices through three core industry alliances:
- The Academy: A premier accelerator program curated alongside the City of Playford's Northern Sound System, offering local South Australian talent a dedicated showcase stage in the park.
- Pacific Break: Run in tandem with ABC Pacific's yearly music competition, offering the brightest emerging talent from across the Pacific an Australian festival debut with a spot on the lineup each year.
- Nexus Arts Initiative: Creating tangible development pipelines for local culturally and linguistically diverse artists via workshops, performance slots, and direct coaching from WOMADelaide’s Associate Director.
