Industry Development
WOMADelaide is proud to offer opportunities to collaborate with and train the next generation of event professionals. We provide unique work experience for students and young people on the world’s stage, allowing them to gain unparalleled access in the industry.
The Future is Bright
WOMADelaide places regional and local students from SAE University College, TAFE, Adelaide Botanic High School, and Adelaide Festival Centre traineeship program, directly into active audio, lighting, and staging crews during the event. In this way students gain hands-on learning opportunities that combine practical work experience with mentoring and training, and develop skills in real-world settings.
Cross-Border Training
The Academy Stage also features a vital training blueprint for sound and stage technicians in partnership with Barkly Regional Arts (based in Tennant Creek, NT), bringing Indigenous and regional technicians into a live, major festival to develop advanced production skills.
“The WOMADelaide work experience opportunity for the students is simply priceless […] it cannot be simulated in a classroom environment. The students are involved from the bump in, the show days and the bump out. Having the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals on a festival like WOMADelaide is completely unique. […] I have lost count as to the number of students who have ended up working for the production companies on the back of their WOMADelaide week. The experience they gain is enormous!”
