The Spirit of India Fund
Bringing the finest Indian classical music to Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla. For over three decades, the hypnotic rhythms and timeless melodies of India have created unforgettable artistic moments at WOMADelaide.
Great art doesn't happen by accident — it requires visionaries. Established in 2014 to honour the monumental cultural legacy of Mohindar Dhillon (Nataraj Cultural Centre), The Spirit of India Fund is dedicated to identifying and hosting high-calibre Indian classical musicians and dancers in Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla.
Continuing to bring these masterful, world-class ensembles to Adelaide requires extraordinary resources. This includes working in partnership with the esteemed violinist and composer, Dr. L. Subramaniam the world-renowned Grammy Award winning musician, and Director of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival in India, to assist in the discovery and presentation of Indian classical musicians of the highest calibre.
“[Mohindar was] a trailblazer in multicultural performance ... His relentlessness built bridges where none existed and fuelled enthusiasm for the highest quality Indian artists where once there was indifference.”
