About Adelaide
The Festival City
Known internationally for its thriving arts festivals, Adelaide has a proud musical heritage. Since 2015 Adelaide has been Australia’s only designated UNESCO City of Music, connecting us to a worldwide network among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. During your visit to WOMADelaide you might overhear the locals reference Mad March – a season where the city transforms in the heat of summer into a cultural hub, featuring major arts festivals Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Festival, and WOMADelaide. You'll find musicians, magicians and everyone in between wandering the streets and enjoying everything our city has to offer.
Not sure where to start? You'll find five star accomodation with our supporters Amora Adelaide, overlooking Victoria Square and moments from Adelaide Central Market, Gouger Street, and Chinatown, the hotel enjoys one of the city’s most connected addresses. Nestled in the scenic Adelaide Hills discover the exquisite Nepenthe Wines Cellar Door (South Australia is after all, wine country), or visit the picturesque McLaren Vale and stop by Never Never Distilling Co. for award-winning gin, or go for a refereshing cold one and lunch at Coopers Brewery in Regency Park, just 20 minutes from Adelaide CBD.
Public transport
The Adelaide Metro Loop Bus service timetable and map can be found here. All other Adelaide Metro tram and train timetables can be found here. Tram routes around the CBD are free! The Adelaide Metro tram also connects the city to the beach – find the Glenelg route to enjoy a swim or walk along the beach and grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants dotting Jetty Road, or check out the boutique shops.
WOMADelaide unfolds in Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla, where Adelaide’s city centre meets the Park Lands. With galleries, gardens, local dining, independent shopping and nightlife all within easy reach, the city is yours to explore before and after the music.
Before the gates open
Start with brunch in the East End, follow North Terrace past museums, galleries and gardens, or browse Rundle Street’s independent stores before making your way to the festival.
After the final set
Follow the energy into the East End for late-night bites, live music and intimate bars that keep the night moving. Experience Adelaide is your local guide to what’s on, where to eat and drink, and the newest places worth knowing while you’re in town.

WOMADelaide is in Tainmuntilla on Kaurna land. We recognise that Kaurna people are the original owners/custodians of the Adelaide Plains. We live, learn and work here on Kaurna land and recognise Kaurna Elders from the past, present and into the future.
