One of the most groundbreaking voices to come out of contemporary Spanish music, Maria Arnal lives and breathes innovation. Based in Barcelona, she extends her role as a songwriter to include projects that explore sound, technology, and art. She has garnered critical acclaim and multiple awards, including several Independent Music Awards in Spain, the 2017 Premi Ciutat de Barcelona, the 2024 Honorary Mention at the S+T+Arts Prize from Ars Electronica, and the 2025 Gaudí cinema award, among many others.
Her work has taken her from Primavera Sound to a TED Talk event in Vancouver, and as a composer she has created a sound piece for Venice Biennale of Architecture and composed music for several dance productions and award-winning films – all with technology front of mind. As the recipient of the S+T+Arts grant, she has collaborated with the National Supercomputing Centre on her first full-length solo album AMA.
