Applications are open for the fifth edition of the WOMADelaide x NSS (Northern Sound System) Academy, a program designed to support young and emerging South Australian First Nations and culturally diverse artists in the development of their music practices and music industry journeys. 
 
Previous Academy alumni include Marlon Motlop and Rulla Kelly Mansell, Sonz of Serpent, Elsy Wameyo, Estee Kitingan, Katie Aspel, Tilly Tjala Thomas, Sokel, Laitsi, Keith Kugo, Waikid, Elizabeth Ruyi, DEM MOB, Phylo, Taiaha, Rob Edwards, Sofia Menguita, Nestor Again, Nimpala Rose and ALITA
 
Five selected artists will benefit from a series of workshops and activities designed to enhance their skills and industry knowledge, culminating in the opportunity to perform at WOMADelaide 2025.
 
The Academy team is excited to support artists in:
●    Developing their story and strength as a creator and performer
●    Building a compelling live show
●    Consolidating essential business practices 
●    Refining personal branding
●    Fostering team building for the future 
●    Creating strong marketing assets 

Participants will receive guidance from a diverse range of mentors, including local, national and international industry professionals. Mentors from previous years include: Felix Riebl from The Cat Empire, L-FRESH The LION, Elsy Wameyo, David Leha AKA Radical Son, Jimblah, Cazeaux OSLO, Ryan Clapham AKA Dobby and Jeff Serafin.
 
To date, nine Academy artists have performed at WOMADelaide, including Marlon & Rulla supporting Vika and Linda and Midnight Oil in 2021; Sonz Of Serpent, Elsy Wameyo and Sokel at WOMADelaide’s 30th anniversary event in 2022, DEM MOB and Taiaha at WOMADelaide 2023 and, most recently, Sofia Menguita and Rob Edwards at WOMADelaide in March 2024.

Applications for the 2024-2025 WOMADelaide x NSS Academy are now open and close on Wednesday 12 June.
